May 22 – June 26
In one of our Christian Creeds, the Nicene Creed, we assert that the Holy Spirit “spoke through the prophets.” The work of the Holy Spirit comes to life with this sermon series on the Old Testament prophets Elijah and Elisha. 1 Kings, chapters 17-22, center on the Spirit-led work of Elijah in Israel during the ninth century B.C. – restoring a boy back to life, opposing idolatrous worship, and declaring the injustice performed by King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Elijah will appoint Elisha to carry on his work – reminding us the Spirit helps us in our weakness. The miracles of the prophets continue into 2 Kings, where Elisha heals and works for justice.
