Milwaukee, WI

Reformation Lutheran is celebrating 100 years of faith and worship.

GIVING TREE OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES is an opportunity to serve by providing school supplies for those unable to afford them - and who have done a good job this summer at Reformation's Youth Work Program. The leaves on the tree will provide a list of needed supplies and backpacks so you can give items of your choosing. There will be a special "Closing Ceremony" on Wed., Aug. 13 to which all of you are invited. Take time to find the tree, pick a leaf (or 2) and help reward a youth that has done a great job this summer. Please bring all donations to church no later than Monday morning, August 4. Thank you!

Pray for our partners at the Kikatiti Parish in Tanzania

Kikatiti parish is served by two pastors: Zelotte Pallangyo (pah-lahn-gee-oh) who is 56 years old; he is married, and has 4 daughters, 3 sons, and 2 grandchildren. Pastor Pallangyo commutes 20 miles to Kikatiti. He also serves as District Pastor where two days a week he visits and supports the other parishes in his district. Jonas Mbise (mm-bee-see) is 55 years old; he is married to Rebecca and has 5 children and one grandchild living with them. He walks a mile to the main parish and also farms to supplement his income. He hopes to one day afford a truck.

The parish is also served by 6 evangelists - one for each of the 5 sub parishes; one with Christian education. The evangelists serve like pastors - leading worship, preaching, and providing pastoral care to members. They are: Mungure (moon-goo-ree) at Kikatiti Centre; Mbise (mm-bee-see) at Jeriko; Kaaya at Kitefu; Rachel Nnko (nn-koh) at North; Wiljofrey at Old; Nasari with education. ASANTE SANA (thank you)

After visiting the Kikatiti Parish in Tanzania last summer, the Our Savior's delegation promised to enlist the help of this congregation in praying for our new friends in Christ. Believing God would honor your prayers, our new friends desire you to pray for them.

August Prayer Partner Focus: Orphans & Orphanages
There is surely something about orphanages that tugs with extra vigor on our hearts. A room full of cribs holding napping babies and toddlers provokes a multitude of emotions. On our trip to Tanzania last year we visited the Nkoaranga Orphanage - one of the Meru Diocese' ministries. The place itself was cheerful, by Tanzanian standards, and the children were clean and fed. But how they sought our attention! It was the start of naptime when we arrived, and some were already asleep, but those that weren't flocked around us. They reached up begging to be picked up, and of course, many of us could not resist. I did not doubt that these children were well taken care of, but there was a certain sadness about them that comes when a child does not have a family of their very own. As you know, there is a larger than normal orphan population in Africa due mostly to AIDS, but there are other diseases as well (malaria, pneumonia) that take people in their early adulthood. Many extended families care for the children whose parents have died. On our home visits we often encountered grandmothers caring for young children. But there are also many who must go to an orphanage. It is a challenge to provide enough space, food, clothing, and attention to so many children. We know our Father in Heaven has special concern for the orphans of the world. Please ask Him to watch over the orphans living in the Meru Diocese, and to give their caregivers the strength, love, and resources they need to create a childhood of joy and hope for these little ones who are growing up without parents.

TANZANIA TRIP JULY 2007
For 15 days, five of us traveled and visited with the Kikatiti parish, visiting the ministries of the Meru Diocese, and seeing Tanzania. While there, we were representatives of Our Savior's in this partnership. Thank you for your prayers - for safe travel, for the words to speak, for God to make us a blessing. Asante sana! (Thank you very much)

We have a 10-year partnership with the Meru Diocese and our newest partnership with the Kikatiti parish has just been started. The Tanzania group was inspired by the faith and friendship experienced with our partners at the Kikatiti parish. Help us grow this partnership! For information contact Pastor Karen.
