"Fall Back" applies to your clocks - not your exercise routine!

For many of us fall is a very hectic time of year. The kids are back in school, yard work needs to be completed and for the very organized holiday season preparations begin. It can be very challenging to begin or maintain an exercise routine when you are already feeling that you are starting to unravel.

Exercise at these times is more important than ever. Exercise will assist with weight management, boosting your immune system and also aide in stress management. It can also be a good time to sneak in additional time for prayer and reflection.
For some, trying to squeeze 30 minutes of exercise in an already busy day can be challenging. The good news is that some studies have shown that walking for two 15 minute blocks can be just as beneficial as walking 30 minutes all at one time. For those with a busy schedule this can be more easily achieved. The important thing is to just keep moving. Any activity is better than none at all.
There are some tips to sneak more activity into your day without a lot of planning. Take the stairs whenever possible. Park a little farther away and briskly walk to your destination. March in place while doing activities that require long bouts of standing. If you are sitting and watching the news at 5 o'clock, take 2 canned goods and use them as weights to work your arm muscles while marching your feet in place. When shopping at the mall make a few extra laps before heading home.
If you are busy with children, try to involve other family members at home to assist with your exercise goals. Try to achieve 15 minutes of exercise in the morning or afternoon. After dinner ask if someone could assist with clearing the table so you can sneak in another 15 minute walk. Fifteen minutes can be easier to time manage in a busy day and it can be done with some creative planning.
So when you set your clock back lace up your sneakers and make exercise a part of your daily routine!
~ Remember, God walks with you and He will assist you with your goals ~
